Ismail Md. Mofizur Rahman (Ismail M. M. Rahman) assumed his current responsibilities as an Associate Professor of the Institute of Environmental Radioactivity, Fukushima University, Japan in Oct 2015. He started his career in education and research as a faculty member of the University of Chittagong, Bangladesh from Oct 2002, and was affiliated with the Department of Chemistry (Lecturer: 2002–2004; Assistant Professor: 2004–2012) and Department of Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering (Associate Professor: 2012–2015). Before that, he worked as a management staff (2001–2002) in the Coats Bangladesh Ltd. (a member of the global operations of Coats PLC, UK). He also had adjunct attachments with Kanazawa University, Japan (Collaborative Professor, 2015–present; Visiting Research Professor, 2014–2015; JSPS Postdoctoral Research Fellow, 2012–2014; Visiting Researcher; 2011–2012), INTERAC, Japan (Language Consultant, 2009–2011), British Council, Bangladesh (Examination Services, 2007–2008) and Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan (Research Fellow, 2004–2005). Ismail M. M. Rahman received his Ph.D. degree in Environmental Analytical Chemistry from Kanazawa University, Japan (2011). He also achieved a Diploma in Environment from the Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan (2005). Besides, he has an M.Sc. degree in Applied Chemistry and a B.Sc. degree in Chemistry, all from the University of Chittagong, Bangladesh. Ismail M. M. Rahman has the honor to receive Chubu Research Fellowship on Environmental Technology (2014–2015): The Foundation of Chubu Science & Technology Center, Japan; JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship for Foreign Researchers (2012–2014): Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS); Japan Government (Monbukagakusho: MEXT) Scholarship (2008–2011); Asian Youth Fellowship: Japan Foundation, Japan (2008); TIGP Research Fellowship: Academia Sinica, Taiwan (2007); TokyoTech-UNESCO International Research Fellowship, Japan (2004–2005). In 2009, Bangladesh Academy of Sciences nominated him to join in the JSPS-sponsored 2nd HOPE Meeting held in Japan (an opportunity for interdisciplinary dialogues with Nobel laureates and other distinguished scientists) as a representative participant from Bangladesh, and his contribution received the award for ‘Best Poster’ and ‘Best Group Presentation.' Ismail M. M. Rahman’s research interest includes study of the fate and behavior of environmental pollutants in the biosphere; design of eco-friendly environmental remediation technology; developing sustainable waste management practices for the treatment, handling, reuse and ultimate residual disposition of solid wastes; nature and type of interactions in organic liquid mixtures for engineering applications.
